The original brothel recipe was inspired by Ruby Cowan. She is a Tui Na therapist and treats her clients with massage and acupuncture methods from Traditional Chinese Medicine. By resolving blockages in energetic meridians in the body, Tui Na allows Qi (life energy) to flow freely through the body. Ruby’s motto is: Wake up with a cup of warm chicken bone broth. Why?
“When you are sleeping the digestive system slows down and your body’s energy becomes passive. What you want to do is give your body a little nudge in the transition from standing still (yin) to moving (yang), fuelling your tank. Chicken bone broth is very nutritious and doesn’t over stimulate the body. It gives the stomach and the spleen the opportunity to help absorb all the micro-nutrients it needs.
During the day you are moving, simulating Qi (life energy) to move through the body. During the night you stagnate and cool down. Starting with a warm broth literally helps to bring things into motion and ginger, turmeric and Szechuan pepper have an extra warming effect.
Feeding the body is so important. Women, especially in the West, are completely drained because we give so much in our work, family life, social circle, sport you name it. Being drained makes you cold and stops your Qi from flowing freely. This make it more difficult for the immune system to function well and makes it easier for you to catch a cold or worse.”
